Doing more than just dragons?

It has come to my attention that the market may be over saturated with dragons right now, with all the movies and Game of Thrones, there are so many other artists creating dragons. I was so surprised and amazed at how many Facebook viewers the Drat reached. Almost 10 times the usual number of views. Thank you. I’m going to make a few more of them for the fall.

Last year I was only able to make around thirty dragons, so far this year I’ve completed 14, with four more custom orders for the fall. I am hoping to get 40 dragons done this year…and it looks like I will be close. Remember my dragons are a real labor of love, made possible by the support of my loving and understanding husband and family.

In the past, I have made gryphons, faeries, unicorns, Pegasus, Drats, Sea Serpents. Oriental Dragons, and Lg, Md,& Sm Dragonflies and certainly could easily start making them again.

This summer I’m working on custom sewing projects, cutting out the fall dragon orders, and finishing up the moth and bee sprite dragons.

Next year I’m thinking about cutting back on dragons, and adding some other creations… Gryphons, unicorns, Pegasus, Drats, Sea Serpents, Oriental Dragons, and Lg, Md,& Sm Dragonflies.

What other sort of mythical creatures would you want to see? Or should I stick with just Dragons?

Thanks for any inputs, suggestions and insights,

Sherry

Hopefully that will make it easier for buyers who do not want to deal with Pay Pal.

Diego the Drat is finished,

Drat- 5-14-15 Dragontry 002

I used a fabric marker to add rosettes to the spotted fur, and cut out so that the belly and wings would be from the whiter part of the fabric.

I decided to give the inner wings a more striped pattern, for an amazing look.

Drat- 5-14-15 Dragontry 008

I used special order eyes in an olive metallic. Sculpting the head was interesting. All the head pieces were cut on the bias to allow for extra stretch when sculpting.

I designed new feet, that were wider and more paw looking.

Drat- 5-14-15 Dragontry 011

I designed new ears to be more cat like and added some whiskers, Diego is so soft and fluffy! Luckily he does love to be petted.

While I have made many Drat -cat dragons with various cat fabric before this is the first time I have made one from fur.  Quite the challenge, but I think my first furry Drat was a big success, I love it….so fluffy.  I was able to tweak out one other Drat from the yard I purchased and will finish him sometime in the future, although I may keep it for myself.  If I can find more of this or similar fabric I will make more Furry Drats.

This is Doubloon, a black and gold Reiver Dragon

Doubloon 3-27-15 007 Doubloon 3-27-15 004 Doubloon 3-27-15 001Actually sold Doubloon in March, sorry it has taken so long to post some pics.  March was sort of a blur, winter, family visiting and having the worst cold ever…. Thank goodness we all recovered and  it is now Spring!

I received a great review- so exciting, thought I’d share-

“She is absolutely beautiful. I want to let you know that Doubloon MIGHT make her debut on national tv Live with Kelly and Michael on May 6. She hopped a ride on my niece’s shoulder to support Mr .Donn Harrison for best teacher in the country. He is in the top 4. The school mascot is a black & gold dragon.  “

Finishing up a Drat (dragon-cat) this week!

I’ve been working on a Drat, for a special order, and will hopefully finish it up this week, assuming it all comes together.  I found a great furry fabric, and have fancy-cut it to match the kitty pics, and will use permanent fabric markers to add the rosettes and stripes to match the pictures as best I can.

Teal

Nippers have a bead and wire armature and the legs and arms are wired. Only the legs are button jointed, the arms are sewn in place. Approximate measurements are: The body is 20 inches measured from the nose, over the head and along the back to the tail tip. Standing height is 6 inches, and 7 inch for the the wing span.

Nipper Dragons can stand, but still have their baby fat and prefer to be carried, and loved.

Grima, a Black and Purple Reiver with red eyes…

Yellow spine, per request, certainly catches the eyes, I like it!

Reivers and Nippers 5-3-2015 001

I added some purple horns, although the head ones just peak out of the mane a bit.

Reivers and Nippers 5-3-2015 005

The red eyes do make him look fierce…

Reivers and Nippers 5-3-2015 007

The approximate length is 40-42 inches – measured from the nose ring, along the back to the tail tip, and has a full length ball and socket doll armature. The body, depending on the pose is approximately 10 x 10 inches- with a very long tail. The arms and legs are attached with covered button joints. The wings are wired and have a wing span of approximately 15 inches.

The Reiver is Dragontry’s smallest Shoulder Dragon and can sit upon your shoulder while you go about your travels. The feet should be slightly cupped to fit upon your shoulder, drape the tail down your back and up and over to your opposite shoulder for balance.

Athena – a beautiful Blue, Silver, and Black Reiver Dragon

Reivers and Nippers 5-3-2015 014

I used a blue with metallic fabric for the body, silver fabric for the under colors, and a  black lycra velvet fabric for the spine and inner ear.

This dragon has blue shell horns and blue fox fur to match it’s bright blue eyes.

This is Athena – a blue, silver and black Reiver Dragon.  Artisan hatched. The body fabric is a blue swirl with metallic blue lycra velvet, I matched it with a silver lycra fabric for the under colors. And a black lycra velvet fabric for the spine and inner ears. With a blue fox fur mane, blue shell horns, deep blue eyes, and royal blue texture paint was used for the face nubs and claws. This dragon is a real head turner.
